Morton Bay FigSanta Barbara, California's 130 year old Morton Bay Fig tree has a well known history. It was imported from Australia by a little girl carrying it in a tin can on an old sailing ship...then planted and transplanted in various places around the town. It finally settled in a park across from the railroad station. In fact, it IS the park . It is so big that it is the only tree in the park that has been dedicated to it.
The residents of Santa Barbara care deeply about this tree...so the town arborists pay special attention to it, especially after storms.
It was starting to look thin in its NorthWest quadrant. Dr. Jim was called in to find out what the trouble was...and fix it!
There was a mystery stress that Dr. Jim revealed. If you want to find out what was stressing that tree, please attend one of the presentations that Dr. Conroy and Ms. Alexander offer.
