Beech Trees
Beech trees are very delicate, despite their size. They do not like to be disturbed in any way.
Beech trees are susceptible to Phytopthora disease. Phytopthora is the organism responsible for "damping off" in vegetable
seedlines. It is a weak organism...but left alone in a stressed tree,
it can kill the tree.
If a tree is strong and healthy, Phytopthora will
not be able to take hold as the tree's natural defenses will keep it
out.

FILL KILLS!!!
Disturbing the soil and roots around any tree is dangerous for the tree. However, with any Beech tree, it can be deadly.
All the Beech Trees in this lane were in some state of decline.
However, one Copper Beech tree was in severe decline. By June 15th, it
had not leafed out at all. It was about to be cut down.
